“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.” – Georgia O’Keeffe
I have no answers here about what’s to come. The winter months are when we prepare the soil, rest for the coming season, go to bed early and dream of what’s to come. Right now, I’m worried. I’m worried about what this candidate in office means for the arts, for freedom of expression. I’m worried about a national abortion ban, about education restrictions and book bans and religious oversight. I pray these are baseless fears. I remember the serenity prayer: knowing what I can change and what I can’t.
“Creativity takes courage.” – Henri Matisse
What I can do is create, is channel my emotions into something beautiful, impactful and lasting. I can read. I can write. I can make art. I can create community and bolster wellbeing on my own block. That’s what I can do. Please join me later this month if you’re interested. It’s easy. Just email me, and I’ll send you all the info.
Sending my love,
Misha
