Hello and welcome to Creative / Seminary. My name is Misha Lazzara, and I am an MFA candidate at NCSU graduating May 2021, MA in English from UNC Charlotte, novelist and poet. My husband, Adam, has been a touring musician for two decades with the band Taking Back Sunday. We raise three kids in Charlotte, NC, where we live in the NoDa neighborhood—known as The Arts District.
Each week on Sunday mornings, Creative / Seminary will offer a new concept designed to inspire readers to think more deeply about the world around them. Whether it’s a person, place, object or period of time, we will explore and engage with these topics on a deeper level through readings, art, popular culture representations, philosophy, science and music. Topics will span history and the globe, as diverse as crows, Carl Jung’s archetypes, birch trees, the history of coffee, sonnets, moon phases, Murasaki Shikibu and many more.
Creative writing “assignments” will be provided every week to help you grow and maintain your creative muscles and uncover your own creative processes.
Free content will include a new, thought-provoking topic each week, along with a brief discussion, and a free-writing “assignment” to allow for a journal-like exploration of the topic. I will also keep you apprised of any writing and publication news on my end, especially regarding my debut novel, Manmade Constellations, which will be out with Blackstone Publishing sometime next year (date to be announced). First free post will be available on March 21, 2021.
Paid subscriptions will include stimulating resources connected to the topic (art, media, readings), two detailed and guided “assignments” to help you think more deeply about the topic (poetry, fiction, research-based and others), as well as examples of my own personal writing surrounding the concept, and more. First paid post will be made available on April 4, 2021.
I hope to see you here every week,
Misha
